Sculpture in Reader’s Digest, March issue

In the March issue of Reader’s Digest you can see a little sculpture I did in 2.5 days. I enjoyed developing my own characters for this poll asking readers if they’d marry the same person again. The lovely Vicki Nightingale, Associate Art Director at Reader’s Digest, asked me to sculpt a cake topper to accompany this article. The cake is carved from insulation foam, painted with acrylic and details added with joint compound squirted through a tube. The bride and groom are sculpted with Super Sculpey on top of wire armatures and painted with acrylic and oil paints. The tiara is created from gems that I plucked out of some costume jewelry I had lying around and the veil is cut from sheer material that was hiding in one of my supply bins. Below you can see some of the progression from sketch to finished sculpture. Enjoy!

You never cease to amaze and amuse with your incredible sculptures. Well done darling angel – it’s so good that you share your talent with the world.
